The Hyperion tank (code name “Rema”) spots them, allowing our soldiers to take them down from a safe distance. There are elite harridans up high, way up by the top of the UFO. We’ve lost the Magstorm even though I swear it was on the escape pad at the alien fortress. The crew sent from Cydonia include some of Korriban’s veterans and the best recruits from the other bases’ garrisons. This prevents it from disappearing, and allows me to get this soldier transfer done and a Hyperion tank ready. Two dropships “tag-team” the UFO, there’s always one heading there but as one gets close they swap over. I do that naughty trick I learned in the old XCOM. The quantum decoupler indicated that is was an andron crew with a praetor leader. Nonetheless, the three remaining do well to secure the UFO by themselves, and with no rocket backup.ĭuring the UFO wave of several days ago we shot down a battleship over Africa. Add to this a stupid death caused by me hitting end turn when I shouldn’t have. I mis-judge the timing and the small team from Korriban lands just after the sun has set. In the middle of this a UFO wave happens and I’m caught short-handed to deal with a scout UFO. I’ve performed some soldier transfers back and forth to help give Team Cydonia the best I’ve got while still keeping last-resort garrisons at every base. If they’re onboard battleship UFOs I might be able to snag one with lizard or robot crew for less psychic malarkey. There has to be a better way to get a Praetor. I don’t want to just leave the base there as it’ll bleed the funding out of the Australasia region. The former advantage seems unlikely, the latter likely. And if the base doesn’t re-arrange itself I might also have a chance, as I now know where the power core is. If those 12 dead aliens stay dead maybe I have a chance. But it’s still going to be a bloody hard slog. I can use a bigger dropship to send in more troops. The question is though, how I am going to get this base? I can get some better equipment, yes, maybe a tank. (I won’t write that in the letters to the family.) It makes this loss actually quite bearable. The fact that we lost very little gear is also consoling. The two survivors leave the base with all the gear (except brave Holmgren’s Wolf Armour… which I would’ve stripped off him before his suicide mission if I could).Īt the end of the mission, though, 12 aliens are dead. Of course an alien appears and guns him down before he can even set the timer. All he has to do is run up close enough – the bomb can do the rest. There it is! I settle him down behind a little barricade and prepare to set the bomb’s timer. He hops in a teleporter to bypass camping aliens and prowls the deserted rear of the base. Once the starting zone is piled with equipment I send brave Joakin Holmgren to find the power core, armed with nothing but a ye olde ballistic pistol and a fusion satchel charge. It’s quite scary – an alien drops by to visit the starting zone and of course there’s the constant fear of beserker states. It’s time to get the weapons and the corpses (and their armour) out. When there’s only three Xenonauts left I decide to leave. They sit and camp for dozens of turns at a time but then can decide to move up.
